This project is one of my favorites! It was really easy and if you skip the staining part and you just flip your fan blades over it is a 1 day project!

After living in our first home for over a year I really wanted to start making our house feel like our own. It was about time!  So I decided I wanted to do a quick project and update this outdated fan we had in our main living room with some paint and stain I had on hand.
Supplies Used:
Rust-Oleum Kona Stain
Rust-Oleum Black Spray Paint
Screw Driver and Drill
Stool
Paintbrush for parts of the fan I couldn’t take outside to spray paint
Painters Tape
Sand Paper or Orbital Sander

At first I just wanted to paint the metal black and flip the fan blades over so we would just have the wood design on display but there was a sticker that left a really terrible mark on every fan blade that was really noticeable so I decided to sand all of the blades lightly and stain them instead. The result was amazing!

At the time, I had just purchased a sander and I was really excited to start using it.  I did sand a little harder than I probably should have in some places (I didn’t know what I was doing really).  This is how I got the stain to look so rustic.  The darker areas are where I sanded more and those spots hold more stain making it look more rustic which I ended up liking!

While the stain on the fan blades were drying I quickly hand-sanded the metal pieces and then painted all of the visible metal on the fan black with spray paint. The parts I couldn’t take off I used a paintbrush and black matte paint I had on hand.

After the metal pieces and fan blades were dry I put everything back together! It was really quick and I love our NEW fan!
